Little Rock Man Dyshawn Hart Identified as Pedestrian Killed on Interstate 57 in Sherwood After Being Struck by Two Vehicles

SHERWOOD, Ark. — A tragic incident on Interstate 57 has claimed the life of a Little Rock man, whose identity was released by authorities following a preliminary investigation. The Arkansas State Police have identified the victim as 37-year-old Dyshawn Hart, who died after being struck by multiple vehicles in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 19.

According to a preliminary fatal crash report from the Arkansas State Police, troopers were dispatched to the scene around 5:30 a.m. following reports of a pedestrian on the highway. The incident occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 near Sherwood, a busy corridor that typically sees a steady flow of commuter and commercial traffic.

Investigators detailed that Hart was attempting to cross the interstate on foot when he was hit by two separate vehicles. The first vehicle involved was a 2013 Toyota Tundra. Immediately following the initial impact, Hart was then struck by a 2019 Freightliner, a heavy commercial truck. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and are cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

Emergency responders, including local Sherwood EMS and Arkansas State Police troopers, arrived at the scene shortly after the call. Sadly, due to the severity of his injuries, Hart was pronounced dead at the location.

Initially, the victim was listed as “John Doe” on a preliminary version of the crash report posted to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety’s website. This is a standard procedure when victims are found without immediate identification. However, following notification of next of kin and standard identification protocols, authorities officially updated the report to reflect the victim’s identity as Dyshawn Hart of Little Rock.

As of the latest reports, authorities have not released additional details regarding why Hart was on the interstate or the specific circumstances that led to the crossing. The incident remains an open and active investigation as troopers work to reconstruct the final sequence of events. Factors such as visibility, lighting conditions, and the ability of the drivers to avoid the collision are all standard elements of the investigation.

In the wake of the fatal crash, the Arkansas State Police are urging all drivers to remain vigilant, particularly during the pre-dawn hours. “Visibility can be severely compromised during the early morning,” a spokesperson noted in a general safety reminder. “Drivers should reduce speed and eliminate distractions to ensure they can react to unexpected hazards, including pedestrians or wildlife.”

This tragic event highlights the extreme danger pedestrians face when attempting to cross controlled-access highways like I-57, where vehicles travel at high speeds and drivers do not expect obstacles in the roadway. According to data from the Arkansas Department of Transportation and the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), pedestrian fatalities on interstates, while less common than on surface streets, often result in severe outcomes due to the high rate of speed involved.

The investigation into the exact timeline of events is ongoing. Further updates will be provided by the Arkansas State Police as more information becomes available, including toxicology reports and final determinations from the investigating team.

The local community in Sherwood and the Little Rock area have taken note of the incident, with discussions emerging on social media regarding road safety and the need for pedestrian overpasses or barriers in high-risk zones, though no specific infrastructure changes have been directly linked to this case by officials at this time.

The names of the drivers involved in the collision have not been released, as no charges have been filed and the investigation is still in its preliminary fact-gathering stage.
